The warm down, on the Whitsbury Gallops.

Sat in the truck waiting to watch the horses roll up the gallops, sun beaming down and blue skies all the way the horizon, you'd be forgiven for thinking it was a crisp spring morning, rather than the beginning of winter. Jumping out of the truck as the horses come around the bottom bend of the gallops and you're starkly reminded by the -5℃ chill that, while it is dry and sunny, it is in fact now December!
The all-weather gallops at Whitsbury allow us to train in pretty much any conditions and our horses are all training well. However, without wanting to put a dampener on things (pun completely intended), like many national hunt yards around the country, we are hoping that we will soon get just a little rain to soften the ground at some of the many meetings coming up over December and the fast approaching festive period.
That said, on a day like today, with the rolling rural scenery of Whitsbury and the New Forest as a backdrop, it's brilliant to be out here, working with the fantastic team of work riders we have at Paul Henderson Racing.
The race days may be few and far between this last couple of weeks, but behind the scenes, the whole team is out there working hard to get the horses well prepared, come rain or shine!

During my brief visit to my family in the state of Texas, I've seen horses galloping in the fields. Then all of a sudden, I saw my uncle catching one of these horses with my own two eyes. That triggered my switch to practice horse racing. As I grew up, my hobbies changed from playing computer games to tending our horses. At exactly 5 in the morning, I'll wake up and start my day with the horses. It's an exhilarating feeling.
